Here are the main types of defence vehicle testing:

Mobility Testing

• Off-Road Performance Testing: Evaluates the vehicle’s ability to navigate challenging terrain, including mud, sand, rocks, and water crossings.
• Climbing and Descending Testing: Tests the vehicle’s capability to ascend steep inclines and descend safely without loss of control.

 

Durability and Reliability Testing

• Long-Term Endurance Testing: Simulates extended operation in demanding conditions to assess the vehicle’s overall durability and reliability.
• Accelerated Life Testing: Subjects the vehicle to accelerated wear and tear to predict its long-term performance and potential failure points.

 

Crew Comfort and Ergonomics Testing

• Evaluates the vehicle’s interior design, seating, controls, and visibility to ensure the well-being and effectiveness of the crew during missions.

Cold Weather and Hot Weather Testing

• Cold Start Testing: Evaluates the vehicle’s ability to start and operate reliably in extremely cold temperatures.

Water and Amphibious Testing

• Water Fording Testing: Tests the vehicle’s ability to traverse water bodies, such as rivers and streams, without compromising performance or safety.
• Amphibious Testing: Evaluates the vehicle’s capability to operate both on land and in water, including flotation, propulsion, and stability.

Electronic and Communication Systems Testing

• Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Testing: Ensures that the vehicle’s electronic systems do not interfere with other military equipment.
• Communication System Testing: Assesses the performance of communication and data-sharing systems under different operating conditions.
• Cybersecurity Testing: Assesses the cybersecurity measures and vulnerabilities of military vehicles to ensure they are protected against cyber threats that could compromise their functionality, safety, and mission success.
• TEMPEST testing involves measures such as shielding, filtering, and grounding to minimize electromagnetic radiation. It also includes the use of specialized equipment and techniques to assess the susceptibility of a device to electromagnetic interference and to verify that it meets specified standards for secure operation.
